Ottawa

Monday and Tuesday of this week I was in Ottawa. It was great to visit and meet some of the people CH supports and staff in the area as well, it was very inspiring - thanks Everyone!

On the Monday night the Ottawa connection of our March Guatemala trip (Jill, David and Christine) put together an information night at a local church. About 50 people were there from a variety of Ottawa churches. It was great, we got to share about the trip and the ministry that is happening in Guatemala. They also let me share a bit about the walk. The eveneing certainly generated some interest and new partners as we continue to impact the WORLD!

Thanks Jill, Dave and Christine - I really enjoyed my time with you! See you at the finish line (they are walking the last day with me to the finish line)

Confessions of a Sailor

I have to be honest, I didn't go for a 5k walk this morning. Why? The sailing club opens today! As some of you may know I like Sailing! just a small boat on a small lake, but it's great. So today the club has a workday to clean everything up from the long winter sleep.

My boat had a bath and is now ready to go. ( Picture below: my daughter getting right in there cleaning the boat)

West District Fundraiser

Last night the West District of Christian Horizons had a dinner / auction fundraiser. What a great time (thanks everyone who worked so hard to put that on). I'm not sure how much was raised but the money was going towards our ministry in Sri Lanka and the Dash, so they kindly gave me some time to chat about it. (as for the silent auction, I know we won some bids, but most important won the bid for the socket set and LED work light!)

Body Break - Participaction!

Who can forget Hal Johnson and Joanne Mcleod of the Body Break Commercials. Well they still are alive and well on the internet at the Participation site. www.participaction.com.

On this site you can not only get some great tips for health, but you can also read others stories of their "get healthier" journey. So I posted my story on the site... Check it out.... Click Here! It is also a great place to get some inspiration, ordinary people like you and me, doing things to redirect our health and future.

Other DASH Updates

Today I became aware of a couople of some funds coming in to support the various projects of the Dash! All I can say is - Wow!!! This support was sizable and very encouraging.

Training Update

The new shoes from the Runners Den are getting broken in very well. I must say, I'm socked at how much a propper pair of socks make to the walking experience! Thanks Again Scot and the Runners Den!

I'm encouraged with the warmer weather, or at least the promise of it. I'm now focusing my training on walking. I'm getting up doing over 5k in the morning and then doing it again at night. I want to steadily increase this, but it is time consuming....

Welcome Aboard Scot and the Runners Den!

This Week I had an amazing day!

This is Scot. He owns the runners den in port dover. Scott is a passionate man.

Passionate about running, health, encouraging others to reach for their best and about giving back to the community both at home and around the world! I'm so pleased to announce his partnership with the dash! The Runners Den and the associated running family the North Shore Runners are helping me with technical support and some great clothing. I have learned over the last year that the right footwear and the right clothes are really important to getting this task done. Scot has not only given and sacrificed these Things for the sake of kids in Guatemala but has also given, advice, let me tap into his experience and is a great source of encouragement.

Scot – you really are making a HUGE difference in peoples lives, I’m in awe of your desire to help people reach their potential, push their limits and experience a much healthier life. And…. Your partnership is doing amazing things for giving children in Guatemala a chance to reach their potential and to live life past the limits that their society and community put on them, because of poverty, lack of education, lack of training. I know, I’ve been there, I’ve met the children and the families that will be impacted.

It’s an amazing thing when we all work together! Thanks Scot

Taking on the Challenge in a BIG way!

I’d like to introduce you to Amber. Amber is “stepping up to the plate” and walking with me on this journey THE WHOLE WAY! From Kitchener to Windsor! (not to mention funds she is raising for these projects at the same time)

Amber wanted to share this with you….

The Walk

When this idea was birthed I immediately wanted to be a part of it.
I have been wanting to walk with a goal of raising awareness for those we serve.
This walk not only meets that goal but it accomplishes so much more.
In the last few days this walk has been on my heart in such a powerful way.
It's as if the Lord is saying that the walk is more than a walk it is a time when I will speak tenderly to your spirit on behalf of those we serve.
It is a time of communion with me, a time of prayer, and a time of worship,
I believe that this walk will accomplish so much in the heavenly that we will see the fruit of it hear on earth.
With each step I believe that faith is birthed, and those things that we believe but have not seen will be born.
My goal on the walk is to pray for a release of provision for those in need.
As well I will be praying for CH as an organization that we will continue to see the fruitfulness of God and the vision that birthed this ministry continue
I am so honored to walk with Dave , and I pray that we will inspire CH staff (and others) to rise to each occasion that God places on their heart to see this ministry bless others hear in Canada and around the world.

In His Grip, Amber

A bigger part of the body than you think!

Walking by my inbox at work at the end of this week, I grabbed the papers and headed to my desk. on the way I realized the number of "encouragement cards" I had received. Over the last couple of weeks an appeal went out from Christian Horizons inviting people to support the walk from Kitchener to Windsor (325+kms). Along with that was an opportunity to write a note on a card and send it back to me. Well.... I've been getting them, and must say, I don't think I ever would have guessed how they would impact me! What a Blessing! So, as I read though the stack I had in my hand, I was overcome by the support, well wishing and encouraging! (yes, tears came to my eyes)

The other thing that hit me like a ton of bricks was how much encouragement does, What an incredibly powerful force, on a nuclear scale of power I mean, BIG! when your down it gets you up, when out of energy it fires the jet pack, when thinking I'm no good it give you worth, when you have no faith, it gives you reason to believe again......

No wonder it's such an important part of the body - See Romans 12 below!

So.... THANK-YOU for all who have sent in those cards and all who are planning on it, I can't really tell you what it has done for me!

Romans 12
4Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. 7If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; 8if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.

And.....

as I write this I'm in Montreal, spending the Easter weekend with family. Just got back from a RUN / WALK. if you recall a blog post from last may, you will recall I tried to run / walk in Montreal then too.... well, I can tell you, What a difference a Year Makes! I'm still no marathon runner (far from it) but little by little, step by step I'm making improvements.

So be encourage (not only is it great to be encouraged but it's great to encourage as well) if you have goals, or big hurdles ahead of you, keep going, don't stop, it may be hard, but YOU can DO IT!

And... And....

This week I meet with the Runners Den (http://www.purerun.ca/) A new Partner on this walk... Can't wait to tell you more about it later!

Getting out of Bed - Success !!!!

I wish I could say getting up and going to the gym in the morning has become so much routine that I don't even think about it... But... That is not case! Each morning is new and is a challenge and a choice.

I thought it was fitting that I received this quote via email today, in light of this daily struggle.

Perhaps you will find encouragement in it as well. As you reflect on what Success means in your life.

When you get right down to the root of the meaning of the word
"succeed," you find that it simply means to follow through.
